Testing compliance check done

The Government today completed a joint enforcement operation at Block C of Lung Fung Garden in Sheung Shui, which was earlier included in a compulsory testing notice.   The enforcement action was conducted from around 8.30am to 11.30am by the Agriculture, Fisheries & Conservation Department together with Police and the Department of Health.   Out of the 194 people whose records were checked, five failed to comply with the notice. One of them was issued with a compulsory testing order and a fixed penalty notice of $10,000.

The Government announced that Chief Executive Carrie Lam has reappointed Henry Tang as Chairman of the Board of the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority.   His appointment is for another two years starting October 1 and the notice was gazetted today.   Mrs Lam said the West Kowloon Cultural District has seen remarkable progress in the past two years, establishing itself as a new cultural landmark in the city.   She pointed out that in addition to the Xiqu Centre, Freespace and the Art Park, two world-class museums, the M+ Museum and the Hong Kong Palace Museum, will open in the near future.   “I have every confidence that under Mr Tang’s capable leadership, the West Kowloon Cultural District will be playing a key part in Hong Kong’s development as a hub for arts and cultural exchanges between China and the rest of the world, a goal set out in the National 14th Five-Year Plan.”   The board is responsible for the planning, development, operation and maintenance of the West

Number of drug abusers rises

The total number of reported drug abusers was 1,779 in the first quarter of 2023, compared with 1,509 for the same period in 2022, the Action Committee Against Narcotics (ACAN) announced today.   ACAN noted that the fifth wave of the COVID-19 epidemic during the first quarter of 2022 may have affected the relevant figures during that period, adding that it will closely monitor the situation in the remaining quarters of this year.   According to Central Registry of Drug Abuse figures, the number of reported young drug abusers aged under 21 for the first quarter of the year was 205.   The most common type of drugs abused among this category of drug abusers was cocaine, cannabis and ketamine, commonly known as “K”.   ACAN noticed that in the first quarter of 2023, cocaine continued to overtake methamphetamine or “ice” and became the most common type of psychotropic substance abused, same as the full-year situation in 2022.   Among the reported young drug abusers aged under 21, i

Electors' particulars protected: REO

The Registration & Electoral Office (REO) has all along implemented stringent measures on inspection of registers to protect electors' particulars in the registers.   The REO made the statement today in response to media enquiries concerning the arrangements for inspection of provisional register of electors, noting that audio recording, photo and video-taking and copying information are prohibited during the inspection.   It explained that any individual who reproduces or permits any other person to reproduce in any form, uses or permits another person to use, or imparts to any other person any information contained in the registers for a purpose other than a purpose related to an election, commits an offence.
