Countryside campaign launched

The Environmental Protection Department today announced that its Countryside Conservation Office launched the Back to Our Countryside campaign to encourage the public to explore Hong Kong's remote rural areas.   As one of the celebration activities for the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, the campaign includes a photo and video competition as well as online guided tours.   With the theme of Retaining the Past, the photo and video competition enables people to explore and showcase the unique natural aspects of Hong Kong's countryside through the lens so as to raise public awareness of rural conservation.   It comprises primary school and secondary school categories and an open category, and is open for entries until July 11.   Winning entries will be displayed in an exhibition named Future Captured to be held at the Central Market.   For the online guided tours themed Visible Now, participants can visit Lai Chi Wo, Sha Lo Tung, Sham Chung and Kuk Po online to learn about the time-honoured culture of Hong Kong's countryside areas and diverse natural ecology under the guidance of experienced tour professionals.   Members of the public may register online to join the tours starting today.
