New-era talk held

The Civil Service Bureau organised a talk on the Communist Party’s role in the new era for senior government officials today.   Former Deputy Director of the Hong Kong & Macao Affairs Office of the State Council Feng Wei delivered the talk via video conferencing. It covered key milestones of the Communist Party's development, the party’s important role in the new era and the relationship with "one country, two systems".   Secretary for the Civil Service Patrick Nip said at the event that the country has made remarkable achievements on economic, social, cultural, sports and technological fronts and has grown significantly in international standing under the leadership of the Communist Party of China (CPC), adding every Chinese person takes pride in such achievements.   "We would only be able to understand our country by gaining a better knowledge of the leadership and mission of the CPC in our country. This year marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of the party. At this historical moment, it is of particular importance for us to enhance our understanding of the party's significant role in the new era of our country."   Mr Nip said the CPC is the founder of the "one country, two systems" principle and that principle not only enabled the smooth return of Hong Kong to the motherland but also laid an indispensable foundation for the city as a special administrative region of the country to make on-going developments in the long term and contribute to it.   The Government is committed to strengthening civil service training, in particular training on the understanding of the Constitution, the Basic Law and the country's development, he added.   About 200 officials attended the talk, including Permanent Secretaries, Under Secretaries, heads of departments, senior officers of various bureaus and departments and Political Assistants.
