Parking for the disabled extended

The Transport Department today said the coverage of the Parking Certificate for Drivers Who Carry People with Mobility Disabilities will be extended to on-street parking spaces designated for the disabled from January 29.   Currently, a holder of the parking certificate may park their vehicle at designated parking spaces inside government multi-storey car parks managed by the department when carrying people with mobility disabilities.   To further facilitate access for people with mobility disabilities, certificate holders can use the on-street parking spaces designated for the disabled.   The department is replacing the traffic signs at on-street parking spaces designated for the disabled by phases. The replacement works are expected to be completed within six months.   Eligible applicants will be issued with a new parking certificate from today. The maximum validity period of the parking certificate is three years.   The application form and the Notes to Help You document are available online.   The department will also send a letter with a new parking certificate by post to existing holders to introduce the details of the arrangement.   Holders are reminded to pay attention to whether the traffic signs concerned have been modified before parking.   They may visit the department's website for the locations of on-street parking spaces designated for the disabled with modified signs.   Call 2804 2600 for enquiries.
