50 COVID-19 cases reported

(To watch the full press briefing with sign language interpretation, click here.)   The Centre for Health Protection today said it is investigating 50 additional COVID-19 cases, of which 48 are locally transmitted.   Among the local cases, 16 have unknown sources of infection.   At a press briefing this afternoon, the centre's Communicable Disease Branch Head Dr Chuang Shuk-kwan provided details about a cluster of coronavirus cases at a residential building in Tsuen Wan.   She noted that several cases were found on the same floor of Block R at Luk Yeung Sun Chuen.   “Concerning the building in Luk Yeung Sun Chuen, it's a typical private residential building with eight flats on one floor.   “There are four flats affected, with confirmed COVID-19 cases and one preliminary positive case, so altogether four flats have cases.”   Dr Chuang explained that the virus might have been spread by way of the building's communal facilities.   “We suspect there might be some earlier transmission when people of the confirmed cases were staying there through, for example, the lift lobby, the common corridor and also maybe the refuse storage room.   “Of course, after the confirmation of the first case, we have advised the building management to carry out thorough disinfection.”   Dr Chuang added that as a precautionary measure, the centre will arrange for all the residents in the other four units to stay in a quarantine camp for the coming 14 days.   For information and health advice on COVID-19, visit the Government's dedicated webpage.
